2024 School Board Trustee Election

The 2024 Municipal and School Board Elections are happening on Wednesday, November 13th.

Your voice plays a crucial role in shaping the future of our schools. Take a moment to review the short bios of the school board nominees before casting your vote.

 

I am excited to once again put my name forward for the Lloydminster Public School Trustee in the municipal election on November 13. I have lived in Lloydminster for 28 years and have three married children who graduated from LPSD and 7 grandchildren, two who are students in LPSD. I have been on the LPSD Board for 15 years, having passion for education and in Public Education seeing that are students have the best opportunities.

I am retired from Saskatchewan Health (formerly Prairie North) after 20 years as Payroll/Scheduling Officer, which allows me the flexibility that is needed to serve as a trustee.

Being part of the LPSD Board has given me the opportunity to help, in the development of students and advocate for the best education for our students. I would greatly appreciate your support again in the upcoming municipal election.

I believe in an inclusive public education system where all students feel seen and cared for. Where they experience a diverse curriculum and strong, positive relationships meeting their needs to help them reach their full potential. I feel my background, insight and passion for the education of all students would continue to be an asset to LPSD.

Hello school community!  My name is Diane Gow, and I am a retired business owner with over 23 years of experience in Cold Lake and Lloydminster. I have three children who thrived in the LPSD system and had wonderful experiences.

For the past ten years and continuing today, I have coached badminton and volleyball at the middle school, high school, and club levels. I am passionate about fairness and integrity, and I pride myself on being a problem solver. I work with students to foster teamwork and to assist young adults to become kind, generous, thoughtful, and respectful individuals.

Karoline grew up in Shellbrook, Sask. where she attended school from kindergarten to Grade 12. She has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan and is a CPA (Chartered Accountant). Her designation has provided the opportunity to live and work in Russia and other European countries where she was able to indulge in her passion for history and culture. Living in a foreign country has also been valuable in dealing with the complexities of a bi-provincial city.

Karoline has served on the LPSD Board of Education since 2008.  During her tenure she has served on the Finance, Governance and other committees as well as board Vice Chair and Chair.  She has also served as a table officer for the Public Schools of Saskatchewan and on the Saskatchewan Human Rights Citizenship Committee.  Karoline believes in the value of education, which allows all people to reach their full potential.

Melanie is pleased to announce her candidacy for re-election to serve as an LPSD Board of Education Trustee. Her Standing Committee appointments as a Board member included: Governance Chair, Staff Relations Chair, Communications & Public Advocacy member, and AB School Boards Association representative.

Over the past thirty years in Lloydminster, Melanie has been employed in private- and public-sector instructional and leadership roles. She holds a BSc and an MBA in HR Leadership. Melanie values lifelong learning, as well as school, family, and community connectivity. She believes collaboration, a keen awareness of changes within the greater environment, and well-planned options for strategic approach can help LPSD leadership and its trustees continue to encourage student academic and career success. 

From student, teacher, and employee support services to policy implementation, Melanie thrives on thinking outside of the box, being involved, and making a difference. She hopes to have your vote on November 13, 2024.

Akshay Naik has called Lloydminster home for 16 years. He owns and operates Quiznos and Domino's franchises in the community. With a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Akshay has built a strong foundation in leadership and entrepreneurship, gaining valuable experience in managing and growing successful businesses. He has been happily married to Shweta for 22 years, and together, they are deeply rooted in the Lloydminster community.
As a parent, Akshay is familiar with the Lloydminster Public School Division system, having watched his son, Dhoopan, successfully navigate through it. This personal connection provides him with valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities within the education system. Akshay is eager to apply his business acumen and problem-solving skills to the Board, where he hopes to impact the future of education in the community positively.

Cheryl is a very involved member of our community. She prides herself on her volunteerism and has served on countless boards, committees, and organizations over the 30 years that her family has called Lloydminster home. Cheryl has four children who grew up attending LPSD schools. During this time she was an active member of the school community council, and served as a school board trustee for twelve of the years. Cheryl brings a passion and commitment to education and a deep understanding of the challenges our schools face. If you know Cheryl, you know that she is not afraid to speak her mind, bring new ideas, and offer solutions. These characteristics are incredibly valuable for a member of the board to exhibit. Cheryl’s experience as a parent, community leader, and past trustee have equipped her with the insights needed to make informed decisions that benefit students, families, and school staff.

With over 15 years of experience in public administration, advocacy, and government relations, I am dedicated to ensuring that every student in the Lloydminster Public School Division is set on a path to long-term success through strategic decision-making and fiscal responsibility. As a CPA and MBA graduate, I offer both a comprehensive vision and the financial expertise to manage multi-million dollar budgets, navigate complex government regulations, and advocate for policies that benefit the community. My recent role as Chief Financial Officer for a municipality has deepened my understanding of government operations, enhancing my ability to effectively represent LPSD at all levels. As your LPSD representative, I am ready to make tough decisions when necessary, always focused on securing the best outcomes for our students and meeting the needs of our community.

Georgina was born and raised in Lloydminster and took all of her schooling Grades 1-12 in the LPSD system. Georgina then attended The Misericordia School of Nursing in Edmonton where she obtained her Registered Nurse Diploma. She worked in Active Nursing for 4 years and then in Extended Care Nursing until 2014. Her children attended K-12 in the LPSD system. While they attended school  Georgina was a member of a Mothers Who Care support group that encouraged the children and the teachers in the schools their children attended. Georgina has been President of her Local UNA Nurses’ Union while working, served as a Board Member in her church for 3 years and has volunteered serving meals at Senior’s dinners for a time.  She is learning about the education system,  how it  works, and how it is implemented  through guidelines set out provincially and locally.  She is just finishing her first
