Mental Health and Wellbeing
The Lloydminster Public School Division (LPSD) Board of Education has committed to student and staff wellness by making it a local priority. Through this priority, LPSD will create an environment that promotes and develops wellness within staff and students. We will sponsor and promote division-wide, community-based activities that support physical activity and access to resources for mental health and wellbeing.
LPSD has established partnerships with partner organizations that focus on improving the mental health and wellness of our students. Strong Healthy Individuals Navigating Emotions (SHINE) is a partnership with Alberta Health Services and Lloydminster Catholic School Division (LCSD) that will place SHINE workers in each LPSD elementary and middle school. These workers will deliver whole classroom programming to focus on building mental health capacity with Kindergarten to Grade 8 students. LPSD has also partnered with LCSD and Alberta Health Services to create a shared Mental Health Support Role. The Mental Health Navigator /Activator will work with school staff and families and support them in navigating the mental health system in our community. Additionally, LPSD has partnered with The Saskatchewan Health Authority to develop a Mental Health School Coordinator and a Mental Health Promotor to develop mental health capacity among the students and the broader high school community.
Countless successes have been seen at each school since the Division began this work.
