Use of Cell Phones and Electronic Devices in Schools
Background
The use of cell phones and other electronic devices in schools is a privilege and is subject to restriction by the Principal. Inappropriate use of cell phones and other electronic devices can interfere with an individual’s right to privacy, as well as the student’s and teacher’s right to a safe and caring environment.
Procedures
- The Director of Education requires Principals, in consultation with appropriate stakeholders, to formulate and implement appropriate procedures at the school site.
- The school procedures must take into consideration the student population at the school.
- The procedures must have clear expectations and consequences regarding inappropriate use.
- The procedures must be published appropriately so that all stakeholders are aware.
