Driver Education
Background:
The Division re-affirms its long-standing practice of operating a Driver Education Program to provide education and training programs to eligible students in the elements of safety and competence in the operation of motor vehicles.
Procedures:
- The responsibility for the general supervision of the Driver Education program shall rest with the designated Superintendent and shall be consistent with current legislation.
- The Division will engage the services of a qualified driver education contractor and/or instructor(s) to operate the in-class and the in-car components of the program.
- The contract will define the conditions of work, duties, responsibilities and remuneration of the contractor or instructor(s). The contract will be reviewed annually by the designated Superintendent and approved by the Board.
- Eligible Students:
- Consistent with the legislation, any student in attendance at Division schools who meets the minimum age requirement of 15 years is eligible to participate in the Driver Education program. Preference for entry into the program's in-car component will be given to students enrolled in Grades 12, 11, 10 in the order listed.
